If all it took was one little history book to turn an entire Generation against America then it demonstrates that country & it’s ideals were vapid from day 1.
How’s the country looking now? Ba ha civil war 2.0 & collapse coming up.
If only they read the ‘correct’ version of history, life in the USA would be like Leave It To Beaver.
No country in history has had a bigger BS national myth than American.
Wasn’t Zinn a WW2, greatest generation, vet? Bombardier. Didn’t bomber crews have the highest death tolls?
Who’s Mary Grabar? A commie immigrant with an English degree. I don’t blame her for loving America considering where she came from. She seems very zealous to prove her loyalty to her adopted home. New converts (religion or ideology) are often the most zealous.
Poor Mary. All that effort & nothing changed except it got worse with more to come.

The “People’s History” came out 40 years ago. How much effect has it had since? Very little, sadly, aside from provoking right wing nutjobs.
“Marxist talking points that now dominate American education” — yeah, sure. American youth are all turning Marxist. Give me a break. How many Marxists have been elected anywhere in government — and I don’t mean those slightly leftish Democrats that Fox News gets apoplectic about? — none.
Recognising the dark side of American history and wanting the country to live up to its expressed ideals doesn’t make you a Marxist.

Haven’t read this book. However, I’ve read Howard’s books because I am thorough, and I’m a historian by profession, so I can only imagine what this book covers.
Zinn is a carnival barker. He is less than a wart on the ass of the study of history.
If you want “pop history” that has some accuracy and not a lot of bias, listen to Dan Carlin or Dan Bolelli. Zinn is a joke among historians.

Sounds like Zinn would of liked that absurdly inaccurate piece of false historianism that the NYT s did, 1619. Sounds like he also believes the same absurd nonsense that America is inherently and undeniable racist to his very core and cant be changed, because its always been about white surpremacy. What utter gutter tripe. Spread by racist movements like BLM who are trying to promote racial division and burn down a society they believe has always been racist. Its such bull, this black/white nonsense. Its about money and socioeconomic status, not the color of your skin. None of the problems they whine about are ‘black’ problems, they are poor people problems. That all us poor white folks also suffered from. Mary Grabar, a fellow at the right-wing Alexander Hamilton Institute, has written an essay praising Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) for introducing the Saving American History Act of 2020, “a bill that would prohibit the use of federal funds to teach the 1619 Project by K-12 schools or school districts.” This is the right-wing version of “cancel culture,” except it adds government repression to the mix, making it far worse.
Grabar endorses censorship because she dismisses the idea that teachers are competent professionals who can be trusted to analyze complex concepts: “few teachers have the ability or the time to teach beyond the materials given to them.”
Grabar compares the 1619 Project to Howard Zinn, about whom she wrote a book called Debunking Howard Zinn because “Howard Zinn was bad–a communist, a corrupt teacher, a fraudulent historian, and an anti-American agitator.”
Like the 1619 Project, legislators have tried to ban Zinn from schools. Grabar complains that “When in 2017 Arkansas State representative Kim Hendren, introduced a bill to prohibit the use of Zinn’s book in state-funded classrooms,” the Zinn Education Project “framed the attempt as censorship.” Yes, how shocking, to describe legislation literally banning a book from public school as censorship.
