For a man whom history can never forget, Adolf Hitler remains a persistent mystery on one front—his religious faith. Atheists tend to insist Hitler was a devout Christian. Christians counter that he was an atheist. And still others suggest that he was a practicing member of the occult.
None of these theories are true, says historian Richard Weikart. Delving more deeply into the question of Hitler’s religious faith than any researcher to date, Weikart reveals the startling and fascinating truth about the most hated man of the 20th century: Adolf Hitler was a pantheist who believed nature was God. In Hitler’s Religion, Weikart explains how the laws of nature became Hitler’s only moral guide—how he became convinced he would serve God by annihilating supposedly “inferior” human beings and promoting the welfare and reproduction of the allegedly superior Aryans in accordance with racist forms of Darwinism prevalent at the time.

A couple of things:
The author believes in ‘intelligent design’ theory, and his work has been roundly criticised.
There’s no new evidence in this book, just the author’s usual interpretation of it. If you want to know Hitler’s thoughts on religion, read the transcripts of his private ‘Table Talks’ in 1941/42, or read some work by respected historians, not someone with a clear agenda (and who seems to have not read, nor understood, what Darwinism is).

Good point on the Table Talks as an important ref point. Also necessary to (as was observed at Nuremberg), on an empirical level, observe the impacts of nazi policies on religions & the religious; the closures, proscriptions & campaign of intimidation & murder. In addition, the key appointments & promotions Hitler made, and the attitudes these high officials held towards religion.
In this connexion also, what is being discussed is the relevance of Social Darwinism. It’s vitally important to understand this in order to comprehend not just nazism, but the later years of the 19th c, and indeed virtually up to our own time. The author would be utterly remiss if he did not include a treatment of this subject. It was a major driver of Progressivism & the motive force behind many of the central policy initiatives.
In essence, this was a concern regarding “racial” degeneration. This Social Darwinism led to policies of eugenics, and eventually to the use of euthanasia, abortion, sterilisation, and then outright genocide.
As a matter of interest, did you already get a chance to listen to the book?
