In 1861 a Scotsman living in Louisiana took up the Confederate Flag.
William Watson presents a narrative of his observations and experience in the Southern States, both before and during the American Civil War.
Prior to the War, Watson lived in the hot, fertile state of Louisiana.
With Lincoln in office, and the secession of the southern states, North and South was plunged in a violent Civil War.
Watson recounts the widespread lack of political interest until the country reached this point.
In a volunteer corps, Watson was surrounded by several industrial and commercial classes. His recollections include fascinating insights into the men he served with.
Watson also gives his personal views on the causes of the war, and the conduct of both sides.
Detailing the lives of the soldiers, Watson reveals their living conditions, the level of destruction and death and their daily rations.
William Watson (1826-1906) was a Scottish native who moved to the Caribbean to work as a civil engineer. He later moved to Louisiana for business. While in Louisiana, he enlisted in the Confederate Army. He was one of many British citizens who had joined.

What the hell are you even talking about Sable. The confederacy only existed in reference to the US - which didn’t even exist for the 400 year period you’re discussing - divesting of slaves. Slavery is evil as an idea and is condemned universally wherever it is found, which includes in china and india. However, unless you live in China and India, what can you actually do about government inaction on it. I mean, you can lobby your own government to stop doing business with them until they stop? Do you do that? Do you care enough about slavery existing to do that? Or is this all about you owning some imagined snowflake.

Not sure what argument you’re imagining is happening here, but I was alluding to the fact they fought to keep slavery alive. So when sable663 points out “you can’t take issue with the Confederates because slavery still exists”, it’s a really weird take. And questionable that anyone would feel the need to defend the honour of the Confederacy in this day and age.

@eyeballs you really need to work on your reading comprehension. I’d suggest finding an actual book to read.
Because the moment you stopped just blindly insulting people and tried to become involved in the conversations that were going on, it exposed how truly out of your depth you are. The past dozen or so comments you’ve made have been miles off the mark. Law of averages means you should have at least accidentally said something relevant by this point. It’s astounding how lost you constantly appear to be.

All you people who are bashing the book please go do your homework and stop watching CNN. Or just go away all together. Remember the victors write the history and its taken a long time for documentation to be found, The war of northern aggression was not what they told us in school. Like I said do your homework. Slavery was and is wrong! Also it didn’t start with the USA! Has been going on since men started forming tribes. We are the only country who live in the past and love to throw it out there to lay blame for any problems we may have. It is still going on people. There are still slaves out there even in our country. The sex slave trade is something good for you snowflakes to work on. Go stop it! Also if you really want to question things find out the truth of Liberia and why they didn’t teach us about that in school.
