@ceasar, Milton says ‘The serpent is the subtlest beast of all the field’ so such subtil subtitles sowed stupefaction, caused confusion, and incited incertitude.

Pseudo-historical alternative reality book. Funded by evangelical christian anti-Islam industry. Really only “Preaching to the choir”, of no academic value. Your brain cells can do better!

Tom Holland is “funded by evangelical Christian anti-Islam industry”? That’s a “pseudo” analysis right there, rover, ole chap. Islam expanded rapidly, and was extremely militant in order to achieve this. That’s merely the factual, historical record. Or do they still only subsist in the sands of Araby?
