I’ve always been fascinated by this opera:- not least because the Don Juan story is so central in European culture, but almost marginal in English-speaking countries.
Shadwell and Byron both used the theme: but The Libertine is almost forgotten, and Don Juan must be the most under-rated masterpiece in English literature.
