America is disintegrating. The “one Nation under God, indivisible” of the Pledge of Allegiance is passing away. In a few decades, that America will be gone forever. In its place will arise a country unrecognizable to our parents. This is the thrust of Pat Buchanan’s Suicide of a Superpower, his most controversial and thought-provoking book to date.
Buchanan traces the disintegration to three historic changes: America’s loss of her cradle faith, Christianity; the moral, social, and cultural collapse that have followed from that loss; and the slow death of the people who created and ruled the nation. And as our nation disintegrates, our government is failing in its fundamental duties, unable to defend our borders, balance our budgets, or win our wars.
How Americans are killing the country they profess to love, and the fate that awaits us if we do not turn around, is what Suicide of a Superpower is all about.

Anyone at all in interested right-wing politics has to read this book.

The three criteria he’s set out as the path to America’s collapse are the same three (plus a few others) that ultimately led to the collapse of Rome.
Compare this book to Gibbon’s Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Rome was the world’s superpower at one time… and then they began to destroy themselves from within until they became an easy target for invaders and wars…which the ultimately lost.
No difference in America. She’s in decline, divided, perverse and soft. in other words she’s become a target the way Europe has become a target - for invasion and war.
To the uploader: thank you for sharing this book. I have several others by him and two that were inspired by conversations between Buchanan and William Forstchen which subsequently became One Second After and the follow-up title One Year After.
Buchanan’s book isn’t so much left vs right politics - it does, however, have everything to do with the nation’s character and morals.

The entire purpose of issuing a warning is that, by acting upon that warning, the interested parties are able to avoid the undesirable outcome that would otherwise manifest due to inaction. Alerting someone of a disaster that has become inevitable or already taken place isn’t nearly as helpful, is it? Sure, America has been able to “survive” into 2025, so what? The Roman empire managed to delay it’s ultimate collapse for quite a long time–an entire millennium of decay & decline, in the case of the Eastern Empire! Do you imagine that those citizens (or even the emperors!) of Rome who experienced its gradual downfall, gave thanks that they were never forced to experience the pinnacle of their civilization’s trajectory? The surviving histories speak for themselves, countless authors bemoaning the loss of greatness. Similarly, there’s a reason why the centuries following the collapse of the Western Empire are known to us as “The Dark Ages”. It’s not because they were wonderful or enlightened times. Those who refuse to heed the warnings of history are utter fools.
