He was FRENCH. He was fighting for possession of the FRENCH crown. Not only that, but he was born in a French-speaking court to a French-speaking father and a French speaking, Flemish mother. The whole Plantagenet crowd were foreign occupiers. The next “British” monarch would be Henry VII, who had the tiniest bit of a Welch pedigree.
