Pipes’ “Russia Under the Old Regime” is also a classic. I remember encountering these on the reading list for a superb Russian history module. The professor had lived & carried out extensive research in Russia. She was able to provide the most obscurely fascinating minutiae of culture, history & mores.

A Jewish scholar can analyse a set of facts, and arrive at evidence-based conclusions - just like every-phucking-body else. (Well, almost everybody else…) This process can then be scrutinised on its merits. It does not require a “warning” - merely a functioning rational capacity. A traditional brain attachment.

The Israel-Palestine conflict is not ‘complicated’ in the sense that it needs to be the way it is for any reason other than that it serves Israel to have an apartheid arrangement - Israel needs to leave Palestinian territory and recognise them as a sovereign state. I know it’s pointless to try to reason with this mindless hatred, but I still think it’s worthwhile to challenge these nazi-toadying bigots. Continuing to engage is most probably futile, because they don’t have the capacity to change.

So orthodox is not Christian? Whats a proper Christian? Ethiopians became Orthodox about 300 AD, very very early in the Christian chronology. One could argue Orthodox Christianity is the earliest real form of Christianity. Azana, Ethiopian King converted to Christianity circa 350 AD. The above facts have only squeezed out last few years, but they seriously challenge some rather rickety assumption about early Christianity.
