Didn’t he demand that no Black soldiers be permitted into Rome?

I’m sure I read that this Pope demanded of the Allied occupation forces that no African American troops be permitted to enter Rome. Is that correct?
If so, he should certainly be regarded as a racist.

Too many malicious lies told of this man.
“When the war was raging, Pius spoke out very often to condemn the false race theory.” - Chief Rabbi of Rome, Elio Toaff.
African people & black people were, of course, no strangers to the Eternal City, with many in key roles within the Church.

Inconvenient factual history is oft expediently labelled “revisionist” - saves the more difficult work of rational evaluation, dontcha no. It was the Stalinists who initially went that black propaganda route in the postwar period.
Yeah, probably best to keep to the “revisionist” narrative after all.

Pius XII was in no position to “demand” anything regarding Rome. Not his jurisdiction. And it’s not like the American army was much better in terms of its African-American troops.
