The Little Ice Age tells the story of the turbulent, unpredictable, and often very cold years of modern European history, how climate altered historical events, and what they mean in the context of today’s global warming.
Only in the last decade have climatologists developed an accurate picture of yearly climate conditions in historical times. This development confirmed a long-standing suspicion: that the world endured a 500-year cold snap, a little ice age, that lasted roughly from AD 1300 until 1850.
With its basis in cutting-edge science, The Little Ice Age offers a new perspective on familiar events. Renowned archaeologist Brian Fagan shows how the increasing cold affected Norse exploration; how changing sea temperatures caused English and Basque fishermen to follow vast shoals of cod all the way to the New World; how a generations-long subsistence crisis in France contributed to social disintegration and ultimately revolution; and how English efforts to improve farm productivity in the face of a deteriorating climate helped pave the way for the Industrial Revolution and hence for global warming.
This is a fascinating, original book for anyone interested in history, climate, or the new subject of how they interact.

All the climate activists stuffing their ears with paper straws … “NO! ITS NOT TRUE!!! LA LA LA LA, I CANT HEEEEAR YOUUU!”

Well, the chain of causation is still affirmed. How increasing cold drove improvements in agricultural productivity, which then created conditions for the Industrial Revolution - & from that to global warming. (The Industrial Revolution was of course financed by the enormously lucrative British slave trade.)
The French Revolution was mainly caused by an empty treasury - owing to the financing of the American Revolution.

Is there climate change? Yes, but it’s ALWAYS been changing since the beginning.

@jamfortea - its happening a HELL of a lot FASTER than it used to naturally, because, you know, our helping hand…

This is a 23 year old book (2000) written by an anthropologist about a brief cooling period that to us today would be no big deal, but was very challenging at the time.
It’s alright as a casual anthropology read, although outdated in some ways and it is useless to anyone looking to learn about our current runaway climate change or climate science (earth sciences).

In real past ice ages the UK was under a massive sheet of ice for many thousands of years.
.
2023 is the hottest year on record and it was packed with record smashing climate changed jacked disasters the most crazy being Canada setting a new record for forest fires that DOUBLED the previous area burned. DOUBLED That is completely insane and does not bode well for you and your loved ones. Heatwaves, floods, sea level rise (already insurance companies in ever growing areas of the US are no longer offering coverage due to bigger and badder wildfires and sea level rise) drought (Maui & many areas in the lower 48 & around the world have been in extreme drought for years) is slowly killing farmers : SEE olive oil.

***Little Ice Age? No. Big Warming Age? Yes.***

“Woodcut of a famous 18th-century winter in Massachusetts, during what some have called the “Little Ice Age,” for lack of a better term. But compared to full-blown ice ages, it was short-lived and puny, scientists say.”
.
“.. the term Little Ice Age is a misnomer, and some climate scientists have argued that the name should be abandoned. It was not a full-blown ice age at all (or even a little one), but rather a very short-lived and puny climate and social perturbation, by the standards of geologic time.”

Yes it’s a favorite of climate Duhniers, but not surprising. Some of these guys are so scientifically illiterate they thought because it snowed in their town in the middle of winter that meant global warming was canceled.

Some common sense! They believe the Black Death occurred because of this. in the 1100’s the weather was warm, and allowed a lot of food to be produced this continued into the 1200’s, and the populations increases dramatically during that time. Then the cold, wet weather hit in the early part of the 1300’s and caused mass famines, weakening peoples immune systems, opening the door to the Plague.
Astrophysicists say that the Sun dominates our weather, and we are heading into warmer times. Our greenhouse gasses is driving it a little, so their are some effects we are adding to an already warming trend. But there isnt much the USA & Europe can do to stop it when China & India (as well as developing 3rd world countries) are producing 75% of it.

$7 TRILLION a year flows through the oil, gas, and coal industry.

The fossil fuel industry can afford to buy a LOT of disinformation.

**Spain hit hard by rising price of olive oil as climate change takes its toll on production**
“Drought and extreme heatwaves have halved Spanish olive oil production. The price at origin has increased by 112 per cent since last year.”

To a climate change Duhniers this just proves that the olive oil industrial complex is in on the climate hoax too.
So the back of the envelope calculations say that this brings the total number of evil climate hoaxers up to 1.8 billion humans who are in on it, but there’s always room for more.

Hogweed what astrophysicists? Names?? Where’s your links to their published study or these interviews that you heard them say this?? Did you drop out of school before the 8th grade and thus were never taught to cite? Were you never taught to write a proper essay?
Sounds like a typical duhnier “I knew a guy” story.
I always provide links to back up my claims as do all honest, adult debaters, but climate change deniers make claim after claim, yet almost never provide links to supporting evidence except to 23 year old books from the wrong branch of science.
**More than 99.9% of studies agree: Humans caused climate change**
‘
“More than 99.9% of peer-reviewed scientific papers agree that climate change is mainly caused by humans, according to a new survey of 88,125 climate-related studies.”
““We are virtually certain that the consensus is well over 99% now and that it’s pretty much case closed for any meaningful public conversation about the reality of human-caused climate change,” said Mark Lynas, a visiting fellow at the Alliance for Science and the paper’s first author.”

the remaining .1% must be your nameless astrophysicists. Don’t forget share those links with us, so we can read what they have to say for ourselves and look at whatever data and evidence they have.
In a roundabout way it is the Sun, because fossil fuels are just 10 million years worth of stored sunlight.
In just 275 years we have consumed about 50% of the crude oil. The cheap, easy to extract 50%. The low hanging fruit is gone and every year there are more people who want their piece of what can be extracted & refined economically.
Neil deGrasse Tyson is an astrophysicist and I’m pretty sure if he was here he would laugh in your face.
