They must have been followed. That’s the thought I return to after all these years .
In May 1996, two skilled backcountry leaders, Lollie Winans and Julie Williams, entered Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park for a week-long backcountry camping trip. The free-spirited and remarkable young couple had met and fallen in love the previous summer while working at a world-renowned outdoor program for women. During their final days in the park, they descended the narrow remnants of a trail and pitched their tent in a hidden spot. After the pair didn’t return home as planned, park rangers found a scene of horror at their campsite, their tent slashed open, their beloved dog missing, and both women dead in their sleeping bags. The unsolved murders of Winans and Williams continue to haunt all who had encountered them or knew their story.
When award-winning journalist and outdoors expert Kathryn Miles begins looking into the case, she discovers conflicting evidence, mismatched timelines, and details that just don’t add up. With unprecedented access to crucial crime-scene forensics and key witnesses—and with a growing sense of both mission and obsession—she begins to uncover the truth. An innocent man, Miles is convinced, has been under suspicion for decades, while the true culprit is a known serial killer, if only authorities would take a closer look.
Intimate, page-turning, and brilliantly reported, Trailed is a love story and a call to justice—and a searching and urgent plea to make wilderness a safe space for women—destined to become a true crime classic.
“For almost a decade, National Park Service rangers and the FBI were convinced that Darrell David Rice was guilty of the crime, despite considerable evidence to the contrary. With cool restraint, narrator Gabra Zackman describes Miles’s meticulous research into the case, detailing her deep dive into news stories, case files, and hundreds of interviews with witnesses, law enforcement, and family members. Miles developed a personal, even obsessive interest in the case, which led her to uncover shoddy police work. With a perfectly modulated voice, Zackman channels Miles’s intense, analytical mind, implacably putting forth a chilling case that another man, Richard Marc Evonitz, is a more likely suspect. VERDICT Reminiscent of Michelle McNamara’s I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, this compelling audio is a necessary purchase for true crime fans, especially those interested in the back-stories, historical context, and larger political questions raised by this intriguing investigation.”

The sad irony is that if even one of the ladies had respect for self defense and the 2nd amendment, its very likely their lives would have been saved, and a monster would be put in the dirt where he belongs.
But i guess their likely far-left “college” thinking was more important, at the expense of their lives. Whats even more tragic is the hordes of people that support the system that creates these monsters in the first place, via the two party dictatorship aka voting

@ Privateero what an utterly stupid point to make. you make out as if nobody who owns a gun ever gets murdered, which is absolutely ridiculous. You’re just taking the opportunity to reiterate the same tired stupid rhetoric you people always do, and using two dead murder victims as your target audience. absolutely pathetic.

That dude should be the spokesman for cliché american trash. Peaceful people without guns and against violence are looking for it and should gun up to make america less violent, they should live in the woods in cammo outfits and become paranoid and stop voting. Then we would have less serial killer.
Insanity.
Thanks for sharing and privateero, insanity. Insanity. Those college people who like thinking and voting and don’t carry guns should really go off grid, make home made moonshine and load up on guns, then we would have less serial killers. Insanity privateero Insanity.
I’m done
