A Short History of Ireland (in 240 episodes) by Dr Jonathan Bardon
In the wake of its 30th birthday celebrations in 2006, BBC Radio Ulster marked the beginning of a new broadcasting era by embarking on the station’s most ambitious project to date, the recounting of the history of Ireland!
For easy digestion, and across the course of a year, the story of the island is told in a series of 240 short documentaries - starting with the Ice Age and the arrival of the first humans through to the outbreak of the Second World War.

british broadcaster telling a history of ireland hahahahahahahahjajajaja
this is 100% fiction. the brits never, ever tell the truth about history
they cant even tell the truth about how they murdered human rights lawyer pat finucane and thats recent history

It’s disgraceful about Pat Finucane - but what more can you expect from that particular government of “none of the talents” - with a journalist for PM?
They do have an aversion to the factual historical record, but that’s due to a lack of education.
As to these documentaries, if you want to put a more tolerant spin on it, they originated at least on the same island, and doubtless have some expertise to support the project, in order to ensure credibility. The historical consultants are key to any such effort.
In Belfield, one of my history profs was a Northern Unionist (Tom Bartlett), but he had no illusions whatsoever about Irish-British history. So, there’s hope, I hope.

There’s nothing short about the history of Ireland.
Especially if you give ‘em a pint and start talking politics
:p

All my knowledge of Ireland comes from the Blindboy podcast. That’s how pathetic our education is about our closest neighbor.
This is a major contributor as to how the journo et al gain power and are praised to the high heavens for their shear incompetence and complete lack of morals.
English schools teach mental gymnastics, not history.

I once saw a drunk Irish…
December 3rd, 2020
Might have been a Scot, too. Really hard to tell them apart.

I have the same problem with (wait for it) - Vikings!
As long as we’re indulging in lazy stereotypes, you can’t tell me that Finns/Vikings don’t drink - a lot? Au contraire, mon frère.

FYI, I’ve been on the wagon the last thirteen years. Not that I was an alcoholic, but decided it was to save the temple for other endeavors. But, yeah, us Finns generally drink and get drunk quite a lot.

FYI, I’ve been on the wagon the last thirteen years. Not that I was an alcoholic, but decided it was time to save the temple for other endeavors (I’m older than you probably think). But, yeah, us Finns generally drink and get drunk quite a lot.

Damn my shaky finger! The last one is correct.

I’m glad of your continuing sobriety (although your comments would seem to indicate otherwise) - you must maintain that unholy temple of yours.
Anyway, if you guys drank to excess, thereby thinning your blood, combine that with your ridiculous Siberian climate - that would be a recipe for bodily refrigeration! (I was going to say “corporeal” cooling, but I know you hate…words)
December 4th, 2020
(I don’t hate words - only your way of using them. I say “a ball”, you throw “a hoedown” or “a shindig” to everyone’s face. Or “a spherule”.)
“The winter is cancelled”, to somewhat coin “The Game of Thrones”.
(I seem to use quotation marks a lot..)

Now you’re using obscure verbiage! You hate “my” words - although I’m actually expanding your vocabulary, and enhancing your linguistic proficiency.
I think that you are surreptitiously enamoured of my arcane locutions and inscrutable idioms. They’re taking up all of your aika. Your wife will think you’re having a virtual affair.

Bromance is the word for the day. Too bad I loathe my brother. I do enjoy dialectical conversation, and you also seem to have a modicum of humor in your diatribes.
December 4th, 2020
I did spot the Finnish word “aika”. So, riddle me this: Olet ulkomaan pelleksi kyllä melko nokkela, mutta ikäsi pilkahtaa aika ajoin esille. Nöösi.
December 19th, 2020
My Viking is a bit rusty, but I spotted some praise in amongst all that xenophobia, so that’s erittäin tervetullut.
You should always include some roughage in your diatribes.
I have one brother (the other is dead to me) - and I probably only get on with him cos he lives all the way over in Yankee-land.
Did you fight with your brother because he stole the family longship? Or did he take Freyja from you, and they went to dwell in Folkvangr?

I have nothing against short Irishmen, but can’t be bothered to read about them.
Let’s make a deal: I’ll write to you Vi- I mean in Finnish, and you answer in gobbledygook, meaning Irish.
